2022 Basic Human Needs Application Now Open!
We are thrilled to announce that the application for our Basic Human Needs Grant is now open! The deadline for the application is September 30th at 5 pm. We will have our last informational meeting on September 8th with more information about the application. You can find the link to the application here. NYS COVID Mandate Updates
A lot of the news around mandates and restrictions have been a little confusing so I will list some resources below that might help.
PIX11 COVID Updates - kind of NYC-centric but state information is sometimes included. Link here.
NYS Department of Health COVID website - It's a one stop shop with an info summary at the top. Link here.
Federal COVID website - covid.gov - it's pretty bare bones but you can search your county and get COVID level
NYS Vaccine Website - Immunocompromised and high-risk folks are eligible for more boosters. Check here to see the requirements.
Antiviral treatments are accessible to eligible people who are COVID-positive. Visit this link to learn more about eligibility and how to get access to antivirals like Paxlovid

Love God, Love Neighbor: Advocacy in Action
"Love God, Love Neighbor: Advocacy in Action is a virtual advocacy training on Sept. 21, 2022, offered by The Episcopal Church’s Office of Government Relations (OGR) and Episcopal Migration Ministries (EMM). This training is designed for those interested in gaining advocacy skills and messaging tools in the immigration space. At the end of the training, we hope all participants will take the opportunity to directly advocate to members of Congress and their staff about protections for refugees, asylum seekers, and all migrants seeking a better life." Part-time Youth Advisor for Trinity Wall Street Youth Programs
Our friends over at Trinity Church Wall Street's Youth Programs are looking for a Youth Advisor to work part-time "[managing] logistics for a robust youth program focused on NYC Youth in the parish and wider neighborhood ranging in ages from 12 to 24. The Youth Advisor will monitor and supervise youth services and programs, including after school activities, retreats, exploratory trips, service learning, community development, leadership, athletics, and college readiness. In addition, they will be responsible for ensuring proper documentation, managing attendance, and maintaining safety standards." Traffic at NYC’s pantries and soup kitchens remains high this year, 68% above pre-pandemic levels - Gothamist
"Food insecurity in New York City soared during the COVID-19 pandemic as many people lost work and steady income. As the city is slowly bouncing back, the number of people in need of emergency food has yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, according to new data from the food rescue organization City Harvest.
In the first half of 2022, New Yorkers visited food pantries and soup kitchens about 3.5 million times per month, on average, according to City Harvest. That’s up 68% from the first half of 2019." Read more here.
NYHealth Survey of Food and Health
"Across New York State, food insecurity—the lack of consistent access to enough food for an active, healthy life—is prevalent, persistent, and costly.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, 1 in 10 New Yorkers—nearly 2 million people—were food insecure. Food insecurity jeopardizes health. Evidence proves that individuals with uncertain access to food have lower diet quality, higher rates of diet-related disease, and higher health care costs.
This NYHealth survey dives deep into the lived experiences of New Yorkers who are food insecure and contrasts them with the food-secure population. The report details the results of a 1,507-person statewide survey. The results are clear: food insecurity is strongly associated with worse health." Read more here.

Community Food Funders has opened up their newsletter to a wider audience (so not just food funders).
